Al-Araf
وَإِذۡ قَالَتۡ أُمَّةٞ مِّنۡهُمۡ لِمَ تَعِظُونَ قَوۡمًا ٱللَّهُ مُهۡلِكُهُمۡ أَوۡ مُعَذِّبُهُمۡ عَذَابٗا شَدِيدٗاۖ قَالُواْ مَعۡذِرَةً إِلَىٰ رَبِّكُمۡ وَلَعَلَّهُمۡ يَتَّقُونَ
164And when one group among them said: “Why do you advise those whom Allah is about to destroy or inflict a severe punishment on them?” They an-swered: “In order to justify being free from guilt before your Creator, and (sec-ondly) perhaps they may fear Allah.”
