About the Surah

       And between them (the residents of Paradise and residents of Hell) there will be a barrier or Al-Araf (as also mentioned in Surah Al-Hadeed: 13. Al-Araf is a wall between paradise and hell and it has in it elevated places. There will be many residents of Al-Araf. Their good deeds and bad deeds are equal in scale – Qurtubi). The residents of Al-Araf will be able to recognize both groups from their appearance (the residents of Paradise will have white faces while the residents of Hell will have dark faces). The residents of Al-Araf will say to the residents of Paradise: “Peace be upon you,” and they have not yet entered Paradise, but they hope to enter it.
