About the Surah

       O you who believe! The Law of Equality in punishment is prescribed for you in case of a murder, the freeman for the freeman and the slave for the slave and the female for the female. But if the killer is forgiven by the close relatives of the killed against blood money, the survivors of the killed should ask reasonable amount of blood-money (not to strain the killer too much) and the killer should pay this blood-money promptly (without decreasing the amount). This is a reduction (in punishment) and a mercy from your Creator. So he who transgresses after this will have a painful punishment.
