Al-Baqarah
أَوۡ كَصَيِّبٖ مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ فِيهِ ظُلُمَٰتٞ وَرَعۡدٞ وَبَرۡقٞ يَجۡعَلُونَ أَصَٰبِعَهُمۡ فِيٓ ءَاذَانِهِم مِّنَ ٱلصَّوَٰعِقِ حَذَرَ ٱلۡمَوۡتِۚ وَٱللَّهُ مُحِيطُۢ بِٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ
19(Some hypocrites are wishy-washy). Their example is like a rainstorm from the sky. There is darkness, thunder and lightning in it. They thrust their fingers in their ears for the fear of death from the thunderclaps. And Allah fully encompasses the disbelievers.
19The reason for descending the verse
It is reported by Mujahid who said, “Four verses from the beginning of this surah were revealed about the believers, and two verses after these four were revealed about the disbelievers, and thirteen verses after these last two were revealed about the hypocrites.” (Al-Wahidi,Reasons of Revelation)
