Al-Isra
وَيَسَۡٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلرُّوحِۖ قُلِ ٱلرُّوحُ مِنۡ أَمۡرِ رَبِّي وَمَآ أُوتِيتُم مِّنَ ٱلۡعِلۡمِ إِلَّا قَلِيلٗا
85And they ask you [O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)!] concerning the spirit. Say: “The knowledge of spirit is only with Allah and mankind has been given just a little bit of it. (More detailed knowledge of spirit is not necessary since we cannot grasp it; hence Allah did not describe it in greater detail)”.
85The reason for descending the verse
It is reported thatAbdullah ibn 'Abbas said, “The Quraysh said to the Jews, 'Tell us something about which we should ask this man [Muhammad]'. They said, 'Ask him about the spirit', and so this verse was revealed.”(Al-Wahidi,Reasons of Revelation)
