Al-Qasas
إِنَّكَ لَا تَهۡدِي مَنۡ أَحۡبَبۡتَ وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَهۡدِي مَن يَشَآءُۚ وَهُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِٱلۡمُهۡتَدِينَ
56[O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)!] Indeed, you cannot guide whom you like, but only Allah guides whom He wills. And He knows best those who are guided.
56The reason for descending the verse
On the authority of Abu Hurayrah he said, “The Messenger of Allah(s.a.w) said to his uncle, 'Say,[there is no deity except Allah], and I will be witness, by means of it, for you on the Day of Judgement'. His uncle said, 'If I did not fear that the Quraysh will revile me by saying that it was fear [of death] that drove me to say it, I would have pleased you by saying it'. Allah TheAlmighty, then revealed this verse.” (Al-Wahidi,Reasons of Revelation)
