Ale-Imran
وَلَقَدۡ نَصَرَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِبَدۡرٖ وَأَنتُمۡ أَذِلَّةٞۖ فَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ
123And Allah already helped you in the battle of Badr (by making you victorious) while you were a very weak force. So fear Allah so that you may be grateful (to Him).
123The reason for descending the verse
At the Battle of Badr, the Muslims heard that Karz bin Jabir al-Muharibi would send soldiers to help the Mushrikun (idols worshipers). This assistance made the Muslims doubtful and worried. Then Allah sent down surah Ali 'Imran (3:124) as the explanation of Allah would assist them with 3,000 angels. WhenKarz heard that the Mushrikun (idols worshipers) was defeated, Karzcancelled his reinforcement. Likewise, Allah cancelled reinforcing His 5,000 angels. (Abdurrazaq, Al-Musannaf)
