An-Nisa’
يَسَۡٔلُكَ أَهۡلُ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ أَن تُنَزِّلَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ كِتَٰبٗا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِۚ فَقَدۡ سَأَلُواْ مُوسَىٰٓ أَكۡبَرَ مِن ذَٰلِكَ فَقَالُوٓاْ أَرِنَا ٱللَّهَ جَهۡرَةٗ فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلصَّٰعِقَةُ بِظُلۡمِهِمۡۚ ثُمَّ ٱتَّخَذُواْ ٱلۡعِجۡلَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا جَآءَتۡهُمُ ٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتُ فَعَفَوۡنَا عَن ذَٰلِكَۚ وَءَاتَيۡنَا مُوسَىٰ سُلۡطَٰنٗا مُّبِينٗا
153The People of the Scripture (Jews) demand from you [O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)!] to make a Book descend upon them from heaven. They, indeed, demanded from Musa () for even a greater thing than that. They said: “Show us Allah publically.” Hence storm of light-ning struck them because of their rudeness. Then they worshipped the calf even after clear proofs of Allah had come to them. So We forgave them. And We bestowed upon Musa () an obvious and clear domi-nance (to influence them). [But they were not affected by Our for-giveness or Musa’s () dominant personality].
