An-Nisa’
مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ هَادُواْ يُحَرِّفُونَ ٱلۡكَلِمَ عَن مَّوَاضِعِهِۦ وَيَقُولُونَ سَمِعۡنَا وَعَصَيۡنَا وَٱسۡمَعۡ غَيۡرَ مُسۡمَعٖ وَرَٰعِنَا لَيَّۢا بِأَلۡسِنَتِهِمۡ وَطَعۡنٗا فِي ٱلدِّينِۚ وَلَوۡ أَنَّهُمۡ قَالُواْ سَمِعۡنَا وَأَطَعۡنَا وَٱسۡمَعۡ وَٱنظُرۡنَا لَكَانَ خَيۡرٗا لَّهُمۡ وَأَقۡوَمَ وَلَٰكِن لَّعَنَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِكُفۡرِهِمۡ فَلَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ إِلَّا قَلِيلٗا
46Some of the Jews change words from their context and say: “We hear your words [O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)!] and disobey, (they say this quietly in their hearts, or while with their friends). Similarly they say: “Hear and let you [Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)] hear nothing. (). Further-more, they utter raena () by twisting their tongues and by making fun of Islam (then ‘raena’ means O our shepherd or O you stupid person while actual meaning of raena is ‘please pay attention to us and we listen to you’). And if only they had said: “We hear and obey”, and “Please listen to us and kindly pay attention to us,” it would have been better for them and, of course, more appropriate, but Allah has cursed them due to their disbelief, and they will not believe except a few in number (e.g. Abdullah bin Salam).
