An-Nur
وَلَوۡلَآ إِذۡ سَمِعۡتُمُوهُ قُلۡتُم مَّا يَكُونُ لَنَآ أَن نَّتَكَلَّمَ بِهَٰذَا سُبۡحَٰنَكَ هَٰذَا بُهۡتَٰنٌ عَظِيمٞ
16And why did you not say when you heard it: “It is not befitting for us that we speak like this. Glorified are You (O Allah!). This is a big accusation.”
16The reason for descending the verse
On the authority of `A’isha the mother of the believers,she said(when the slanderers said what they said about her),“I went to my bed knowing at that time that I was innocent and that Allah would reveal my innocence, but by Allah, I never thought that Allah would reveal in my favour a revelation which would be recited, for I considered myself too unimportant to be talked about by Allah in the Divine Revelation that was to be recited.” So Allah revealed the ten verses (of surah An-Nur).
