An-Nur

Don’t make the calling of the messenger (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) as your calling one another [i.e. don’t address the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) as you address each other]. And Allah knows those among you who slip away secretly. Hence, those who oppose any of the messenger’s  commands, should be scared lest a trial befalls on them or a painful torment is inflicted on them.

The reason for descending the verse

Ibn Abbas (r.a)narrated that people used to call the Prophet (s.a.w) with “Ya Muhammad, Ya Abal Qasim.” Then this verse sent down, which forbade the Muslims calling Prophet Muhammad by saying so. After this verse was revealed, the Muslims called the Prophet with “Yes Rasulullah, O Messenger of Allah.” (As Suyuti,Lubab An-Nuqul from Abu Naim in Ad-Dalail)
