About the Surah

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

Ha-Mim (Only Allah knows their meanings).

The revelation of the Book (this Quran) is from Allah, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise (hence, all should ponder over its message).

We have not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them (e.g. plasma) but with (perfect) wisdom and for a limited period. And the disbe-lievers turn away from which they are warned.

[O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) !] Say: “Think about those whom you worship besides Allah? Show me (also) what part of the earth they have created? Or do they have any share (in the creation of) the heavens? Bring me a (revealed) Book before this Quran, or some remnant of in-tellectual logic (which commands to worship idols) if you are truthful (in your claim)!”

And who is more astray than one who calls others besides Allah while they (false deities) are unable to accept his supplication till the Day of Resurrection and they are even unaware of being called?

And when people are gathered (on the Day of Resurrection), the false deities will become their enemies and will deny their worshipping. (Also see Surah Al-Ankabut:25)

And when Our Clear Verses are recited to them (which are miracles and proof of your Prophethood), the disbelievers say about the truth (this Quran) when it reaches them. “This is an obvious magic!”

Or do they say that he [Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) ] has fabricated it (and claims to have it from Allah)? Say: “If I have fabricated it (then Allah will destroy me) and you will not have any power to save me from Allah. Allah fully knows your (evil) conversation (about the Quran) among yourselves. He is Sufficient as witness between me and you (to judge this matter). And He is Very Forgiving, the Most Merciful.”

[O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) !] Say: “I am not the first and unusual messenger of Allah (which is surprising you. There have been many messengers before me). I don’t know what will be done with me or with you (i.e. I am not claiming knowledge of the unseen). I follow that (in knowledge and action) which is revealed to me. And I am but a plain warner.”

Say: “Tell me! If this Quran is from Allah and you still deny it, while a wit-ness from the Children of Israel [i.e. Abdullah bin Salam (ؓ)] testified that it is like (Taurat) and he believed in it, and you remain arrogant (to believe in it).” Indeed, Allah does not guide the people who are wrong-doers. 

And the (strong and rich) dis-believers say regarding the (weak and poor) believers: “If there was some good in it (i.e. in the Islamic teaching), they (the believers) would not have preceded us (in faith, since we are more witty and wealthy). And when the disbelievers did not let themselves be guided by it, (due to their arrogance and jealousy), they said: “This is an ancient lie!”

And before this was the Scrip-ture of Musa ( )as a guide and mercy. And this Quran confirms it in Arabic language and is a warning for the wrong-doers and glad tiding for the good-doers.

Indeed, those who say: “Our Creator is Allah, and then remain firm (in their Faith), shall have no fear (in the Hereafter) nor shall they grieve.”

They shall be residents of Paradise, residing there forever as a reward for what they used to do.

And We have commanded man to be kind to his parents. His mother carried him (in her womb) with pain and then gave birth to him with pain. And the pe-riod of her pregnancy and weaning is thirty months. When he attains his maturity and strength and reaches forty years, he says: “My Creator! Grant me ability that I may be grateful to You for Your favours which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and enable me to do good deeds which please You and make my children good too. Truly, I have turned to You in repentance and truly I am one of the Muslims.”

We shall accept the good deeds of such people which they did and We shall over-look their bad deeds. (They shall be) among the residents of Paradise. This is in accordance with the true promise made to them (during their worldly life).

And he who says to his parents: “I am tired of you both. Would you keep on making the promise to me that I shall be raised up again when generations have passed before me (with such promises by the messengers)?” While both parents pray to Allah for help (and warn their son): “Woe to you! Do believe! Indeed, the promise of Allah is true.” But he says: “These are only stories of the ancient times.”

They are those against whom the promise (of torment) is justified among the groups of jinn and mankind that have passed before them. Indeed, they were (big) losers.

And each one of them will get levels (in Paradise or Hell) according to their deeds so that Allah may fully reward them in accordance with their deeds and they will not be wronged.

And on the Day when the disbelievers will be exposed to the Hell-Fire (it will be said to them): “You have destroyed your good deeds in your worldly life, and you have already benefitted from them. Today you will have humiliating torment. This punishment is due to your arrogance in the worldly life without any justification and due to your disobedience to Allah.”

And remember the brother of A’d (people), [Hud ( ) ],  when he warned his people in the sand-hills (of Yemen). Indeed, many warners have passed before him and after him. [Hud ( )said:] “Wor-ship none but Allah. I fear for you the torment of a great Day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection).”

They said: “Have you come to turn us away from (the worship of) our gods? So bring (the torment) you threaten us with if you are truthful (in your claim).”

He said: “Indeed, the know-ledge (of the time of torment) is with Allah. And I have conveyed the message to you which I have been sent with, but I do notice that you are a people lost in sheer ignorance.”

So when they saw it as dense clouds approaching their valleys, they said: “This is a cloud bringing us rain.” (It was said): “In fact, it is (the torment) for which you were hastening. It is a wind carrying a painful torment.”

It will destroy everything with the Command of its Creator. (They were de-stroyed). And you could see nothing except their dwellings. We punish criminal people like this.

And, indeed, We had estab-lished them [A’d (people)] more than We estab-lished you (O Quraish of Makkah). And We had bestowed upon them ears, eyes and hearts but their ears, eyes and hearts did not benefit them when they used to deny Our revelations, and (the tor-ment) which they used to mock, entrapped them.

And, indeed, We have des-troyed other communities around you (due to their disbelief). And We (repeatedly) showed them (Our) proofs, so that they may return (to the truth).

So why did those, whom they made gods besides Allah to draw themselves nearer to Allah, not help them? In fact, they totally disappeared from them. And these were their mere lies which they used to fabricate.

And (remember) when We sent a group of jinn towards you [O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) !] to listen to the Quran. When they reached there, they said (to each other): “Be silent (and listen).” And when it (the recitation of the Quran) was finished (they believed in it, and) they returned to their people as warners171.

They said: “O our people! We have listened to a (fantastic) Book which is sent down after Musa ( ) , confirming what came before it, and it guides to the truth and to a Straight Path.”

“O our people! Obey Allah’s caller [i.e. Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) ], and believe in him. Allah will forgive you some of your sins, and will save you from a painful torment.”

“And whosoever does not obey Allah’s caller, he cannot escape on the earth (from Allah’s punishment) and he will have no protector besides Allah. Such are in ob-vious error.”

Don’t you see that Allah, who created the heavens and the earth and was not tired by creating them, has the power to give life to the dead? Yes, indeed. Defi-nitely He is Able to do all things.

And on the Day the disbelievers will be exposed to the Hell-Fire (it will be said to them): “Is this not the truth (since they used to deny it in the worldly life)?” They will say: “Yes, by our Creator!” Allah will say: “So taste the tor-ment, due to your disbelief.”

[O Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) ! The punishment of  disbelief will be inflicted in the Hereafter]. Hence, be patient as the messengers of strong will were and don’t hasten (to demand torment) for them (the disbelievers). The Day when the disbelievers will see the promised torment, it will appear to them that they stayed in the worldly life not more than an hour in a single day (due to the intensity of the torment). [O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) !] This (Quran) is the message (which is your duty) to convey. Hence, none shall be destroyed (in the Hereafter) except the people who are disobedient to Allah.
