About the Surah

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

A questioner asked about the torment which is about to occur            

       Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert

From Allah, the Creator of the paths of ascent (or to Whom the angels ascend).

The angels and Jibrael ( )   ascend to Him in a Day which is equivalent to fifty thousand years.

[O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)!] So be patient with good patience (without slightest grumbling).

Indeed, they consider that the occurrence of torment is far away.

But We see it (very) near.

On that Day the (colour of the) sky will become like molten copper.

And mountains will become like flakes of wool.

And no friend will care about his (worldly) friends,

Though they shall be made to see one another. On that Day the criminal (i.e. disbeliever) would desire to pay penalty to save himself from the punishment, by his children,

And by his wife and his brother,

And by the relatives who provided him refuge,

And all people on the earth, so that it might save him.

But it will not be accepted. Indeed, it will be the blazing Fire.

It will tear away the skin of face and head (and other parts of body).

It will automatically attract those who turned backward (from truth in the worldly life) and who turned away (from obedience).

       And who collected (wealth, by unlawful means) and hid it (to spend in the cause of Allah). 

Indeed, man was created very impatient.

When misery touches him, he becomes very discontented.

And when good time comes to him, he acts niggardly (i.e. refuses to fulfil the rights of others).

Except those who perform Salat.

Those who are always regular in their Salat.

       And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion (Zakat),

For the beggars and for those who are deprived (of basic necessities of life).

And those who believe in the Day of Judgement.

And those who fear the torment of their Creator.

Indeed, none should feel secure from the torment of their Creator.

And those who guard their private parts (from illegal sex),

Except from their wives or from the women slaves (who are assigned to them by Islamic law). Then there is no blame on them.

So whosoever seeks (means of sexual satisfaction) beyond that, they will be transgressors (of the limits set by Allah).

And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants.

And those who stand firm in their testimonies.

And those who guard their (obligatory) prayers.

They will be honoured in Paradise.

Hence, what is the matter with the disbelievers that they come to you running (to deny the above guidance).

From right and left in groups (mutually agreed upon opposing the Quran).

Does every one of them hope to enter the Paradise of Delight?

Not at all. Indeed, they know what We created them from (i.e. from a worthless drop of water. Hence, it is a shame that they become arrogant to his Creator).

So I swear, by the Creator of all the sites of sunrise and sunset in the east and the west, that surely We are Able,

To replace them with better people than them (in the world), and We cannot be outrun.

Hence, leave them fussing and playing around until they meet their Day which they are promised.

       On that Day they will come out of the graves quickly as if they are rushing towards a goal.

With their humbled glances (due to horror and shame) and covered with utter disgrace. That is the Day which they were promised.
