About the Surah

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

The Inevitable (a sure reality; i.e. The Day of Resurrection)

What is the Inevitable?

And you don’t know what the Inevitable is like (since you have not seen it)?

Thamud (people) and A’d (people) denied the striking power (of the Day of Resurrection).

As for Thamud (people), they were destroyed by an extremely awful cry!

And as for A’d (people), they were destroyed by an extremely violent wind.

It was thrust upon them for seven nights and eight days contin-uously, so that you could see people lying on the ground like hollow trunks of palm tree!

So do you see any of them who survived? (None).

And Firaun, and those before him, and the towns which were overturned [i.e. towns of the people of Lut ( )  ], they also committed sins.

So they disobeyed the mes-sengers of their Creator, then Allah (also) seized them with a severe punishment.

When flood water rose very high, We carried you in the boat [of Nuh ( )  ].

So that We make it a reminder for you and that the attentive ears might retain this information (i.e. learn a lesson from it).

When only one blowing will be made in the Trumpet (the Inevitable will take place).

And the earth and the moun-tains shall be removed from their locations, and they will be crushed into tiny particles with just one strike.

Then on that Day the (Great) Event shall take place.

And the sky will split apart, and it (the sky) will be fragile (or flimsy) that Day.

And the angels will be on its edges. And, that Day, eight angels will carry the Throne of your Creator above them.

That Day, you will be presented (to your Creator), and none of your secrets will remain hidden.

Then he who will be given his Record in the right hand will say: “Here! You are welcome to read my Record!”

“Indeed, I firmly believe that I shall see my Record!”

Hence, he will have a very pleasing life.

In lofty Paradise.

Bunches of fruits therein will be low and near at hand.

(It will be said to them) enjoy eating and drinking due to the good deeds you performed in the past.

But he, who will be given his Record in the left hand, will say: “I wish that I had not been given my Record!”

“And that I would not have known how my Record is!”

“Would that my death been my very end!”

       “My wealth did not benefit me,”

“Even my authority and power have disappeared from me!”

(It will be said): “Seize him and chain him.”

“Then throw him in the blazing Fire.”

“Then fasten him with a chain having length of seventy cubits!” (Cubit is the length from elbow to the end of the fingers).

Indeed, he did not believe in Allah, the Most Great.

And he did not encourage (others) to feed the poor.

       So he has no friend here this Day.

Nor any food except the wash-ing of wounds.

None will eat it except the sinners,

So I swear by whatsoever you see.

And by whatsoever you don’t see (i.e. I swear by all the creatures).

Indeed, that is (i.e. the Quran), the word (i.e. its recitation is) of an esteemed messenger (i.e. Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him), who recites it to you).

It is not the word of a poet. (Alas) you have very little belief in it!

Nor is it the word of a sooth-sayer (or a foreteller). (Alas) you learn very little lesson from it!

(This Quran is the) revelation sent down from the Creator of the universe.

And if he [Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)] had invented a false statement concerning Us,

We surely would have seized him by his right hand (or with power),

And then We certainly would have cut off his life-artery (aorta),

And none of you could have prevented Us from (punishing) him.

And, indeed, this (i.e. the Quran) is a Reminder for the pious persons.

And, indeed, We do know that there are some among you that deny (this Quran).

And, indeed, this (denial of the Quran) will cause despair for the disbelievers (on the Day of Resurrection).

And, indeed, this Quran is definitely an absolute truth

So glorify the Name of your Creator, the Most Great.
