About the Surah

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

I swear by the Day of Resurrection.

I swear by the self-reproaching (i.e. self-accusing) inner self of a person (a believer).

Does man (a disbeliever) think that We shall not assemble his bones?

Indeed, We would. We are even Able to put the tips of his fingers (with unique finger prints on them) in perfect order.

In fact, man desires to continue committing more and more sins (by denying Resurrection and account-ability).

He asks (mockingly): “When will be the Day of Resurrection?”

When the eyes shall be dazed (due to horror).

And the moon will be (permanently) eclipsed.

And the sun and the moon will be joined together (as in Bukhari Vol. 4 No. 422).

On that Day, man will say: “Where to flee?”

Nowhere. There is no place to take refuge!

On that Day, the only place to rest will be to (meet) your Creator.

On that Day, man will be informed of all his deeds which he sent forward or left behind (as an example for others). (Also see Surah Al-Kahf:49).

In fact, man will be a witness against himself (as his hands, legs etc. will speak against him).

Even though he may put forth many excuses (to justify his evil deeds).

[O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)!] Don’t move your tongue quickly (to memorize the Quran in a hurry).(Also see Surah Ta Ha:114).

Indeed, it is Our responsibility to keep it (in your heart) and enable you to recite it (i.e. the Quran) too.

When We recite the Quran [through Jibrael ( )  ] to you, then follow the recitation (with full concentration).

Then, indeed, it is also Our responsibility to give its explanation (i.e. to explain the lawful and unlawful etc).

Not at all. In fact, you love (the worldly life for) quick reward.

And you are ignoring the Here-after.

On that Day, some faces shall beam in brightness and beauty.

Looking towards their Creator.

And on that Day, some faces will be sad and gloomy,

Thinking that a great calamity is about to strike them.

Not at all. When the soul reaches the collar bones (i.e. when death is about to occur).

And it will be said: “Is there someone to cure him (i.e. repel death)?”

And (the dying person) realizes that it is time to leave (this world).

       And one shank will be entangled with another shank (or there is hardship after hardship – Fath al-Qadeer).

This is the Day to go back to your Creator.

So he (the disbeliever) did not believe [in Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) and the Quran]. Nor did he offer Salat.

Rather, he denied [the Quran and the Messenger Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)] and turned away (from the truth).

Then he went to his family with arrogance and self admiration

Woe to you (O disbelievers)! So more woe to you!

Again, woe to you (O dis-believers)! So more woe to you!

Does man think that he will be left without any questioning (i.e. without any accountability, or without resurrection)?

Was he not a sexual discharge of semen emitted?

Then he became a clot. Then He created him and fashioned (his organs) in due proportion.

And made from it two sexes, male and female

Is not such (Powerful) Allah Able to give life to the dead? (Yes, indeed, since Resurrection is easier than creating first time through various stages).
