About the Surah

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

Alif-Lam-Mim (Allah, Alone, knows their meanings).

The revelation of this Book, in which there is no doubt, is from the Creator of the universe. 

Or do they say that you [Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)] have fabricated it? (Not at all). In fact, it is the truth from your Creator, so that you may warn the people to whom no warner had come before you [Mu-hammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)!], in order that they may be guided.

Allah has created the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them (e.g. plasma) in six Days. Then He rose over the Throne (in the manner that suits His Majesty). You have neither a protector nor an intercessor besides Him. Don’t you learn a lesson from it? (Also see 15:89, 19:65, 20:6, 21:16, 25:59, 29:8 and 30:8).

He plans and manages all the affairs from the heaven to the earth, then (each affair) goes back to Allah, in one Day, which, according to your counting, is equivalent to one thousand years.

That is He, the All-Knower of both the unseen and the seen, the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.

Everything He has created is excellent (i.e. it is most suitable for the purpose it is created), and He started the creation of mankind [i.e. Adam ( )  ] from clay.

Then He created his children from semen of worthless water.

Then He made his various organs in due proportion, and breathed into him the soul, and He made for you your ears, eyes and hearts, yet you give Him very little thanks! (Here Allah also informed that hearing is developed first and then the eyesight in an embryo. We discovered it recently). (Also see 23:78 and 68:23).

And the disbelievers say: “When we are lost in the earth (after our death), shall we really be created again?” In fact, they deny the Meeting with their Creator. 

Say: “The angel of death, who is appointed over you, will take away your souls (his only duty is to seize the souls). Then you shall be returned to your Creator.”

And if you could see when the criminals shall lower their heads (in shame) before their Creator (saying): “Our Creator! We have clearly seen and heard (that what the messengers used to say, was absolutely correct), (please) send us back (to the world), we will do good deeds. Indeed, we now believe firmly.”

And if We had willed, We would have provided every person with guidance. But Our Word (i.e. Promise) is fulfilled that We will fill Hell with (disbelieving) jinn and mankind altogether.

(It will be said to them) so taste (the torment) because of your forgetting the Meeting of this Day of yours. Surely, We have forgotten you too. Hence, taste the permanent punishment for what you used to do.

Indeed, those who believe in Our revelations when they are reminded with them, they fall down prostrate, and glorify the Praise of their Creator, and they are not arrogant (towards belief, as the disbelievers are). (Also see Surah Ghaf-ir:60)

Their sides forsake their beds (for Tahajjud and Nawafil) and pray to their Creator with fear and hope (it includes Salat, supplication and remembrance of Allah), and they spend from what We have given them.

Nobody really knows what We have kept hidden for them of  happiness as a reward for what they used to do.

(Now when you know the end of both groups) Is then he who is a believer like a disbeliever? They are not equal at all.

Those who believe and do good deeds, they will have Paradise as an initial welcome for what they used to do.

And those who disbelieve, they will have the Fire as their residence. Every time they try to get away from it, they will be pushed back into it, and it will be said to them: “Taste the torment of the Fire which you used to deny.”

And We will make them taste smaller and nearer torment (i.e. calamities of worldly life) before making them taste the big torment (in the Hereafter) so that they (may repent) and return (to belief).

And who is more unjust than he who is reminded by the revelations of his Creator, even then he turns away from them? Surely, We shall, take revenge from the criminals.

And, indeed, We gave Musa ( )   the Scripture [and he experi-enced hardships in its propagation, similarly, O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)! you are being given the Scripture and you will experience difficulties in its propagation]. Hence, don’t be in doubt of meeting Musa ( )   (in Miraaj). And We made Taurat  as a guidance for the Children of Israel. 

And when they were patient, We made from them leaders who used to give guidance with Our Command and they used to firmly believe in Our revelations. (In this Verse the importance of patience is described).

Indeed, your Creator will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection, regarding the matters in which they used to differ. 

Is it not a guidance for them, how many communities have We  destroyed before them in whose dwelling they roam around? Indeed, there are (big) signs in it. Don’t they listen?

Don’t they see how We drive the water (by rain or by canals) to the barren land and make crops grow, which they and their cattle eat? Don’t they observe it (all the time)? (This is the proof of resurrection).

(But when resurrection is mentioned) They (jokingly) say: “When will be this Day of Decision happen, if you are truthful?”

Say: “The belief of the disbelievers will not benefit them on the Day of De-cision nor will their punishment be postponed.”

[O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)!] So turn away from them, and wait (for the appointed time of the Hereafter) while they are waiting (for harming you). (Also see Surah Al-Anam:106)
