About the Surah

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

[Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)] frowned and turned away (his face).

Simply because a blind man (Ibn Umm Maktum) came [to the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him), while he was preaching to the chiefs of Quraish].

And you have no idea whether he would have become more pure (through interaction with you).

Or he might have received some advice which would have benefited him.

He who ignores (your bene-ficial knowledge). Or he who is rich.

You pay full attention to them.

Although there is no blame on you even if he does not purify himself (from sins).

And he who came to you running (with love for religious knowledge).

And he is afraid (of Allah).

Then you neglected him.

It is not good (on your part). Indeed, it (the Quran) is full of (pieces of) ad-vice.

Whosoever wills, may seek advice from it.

It is (preserved) in Records held in (great) honour (i.e. Al-Lawh Al-Mahfuz).

It is exalted (in dignity), puri-fied.

In the hands of the angels.

(Those angels are) noble and obedient.

May man be destroyed, how ungrateful he is!

(Does he not notice) from what (worthless) thing He has created him?

(Answer to that is) From male and female semen drops. (He) created him (in stages) and then made him in due proportion.

Then He made the paths of good and evil clear to him. Or, then Allah made the path (for his exit from his mother’s womb) easy.

Then He causes him death, then puts him in the grave (to give him respect, otherwise animals and birds would eat up his body).

Then when He wills, He will resurrect him again.

Not at all (i.e. the matter is not as the disbeliever think). Man has not obeyed the Commands of Allah till now.

So man should look at his meals (i.e. how Allah created the meals which is a must for his survival and how he created means of livelihood with it).

We sent down plenty of rain water (in an extraordinary way).

Then We split the (crust of) the earth (in a fantastic way).

So We caused the grain to grow there.

Grapes and vegetables.

And olives and palm trees

And dense gardens.

And fruits and fodder.

For your benefit and for the benefit of your animals.

Then when (the second Trumpet will be blown) with shrill and piercing sound. The Day of Resurrection will come.

    On that Day man will flee from his brothers                                           

 From his mother and his father

From his wife and his children

On that Day everyone will be so worried about himself, that it will be enough to totally occupy him (and he will completely ignore his relatives etc).

On that Day, some faces would be very bright,

Laughing and cheerful (at the good news of Paradise).

And on that Day, many faces will have dust on them.

Darkness will cover them (due to sadness, shame and disgrace).

Those will be the disbelievers and the wicked (people).
