About the Surah

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

It is exalted (in dignity), puri-fied.

In the hands of the angels.

(Those angels are) noble and obedient.

By those (angels) who take the souls of believers towards the sky or the angles who take the revelation of Allah to His messengers (very quickly).

And by those (angels) who follow the Commands of Allah with wisdom (granted to angels by Allah).

On the Day when everything will shake violently (and everybody will die at the first blowing of the Trumpet).

It will be followed by the second blowing of the Trumpet (and everything will be resurrected).

That Day, (many) hearts will be beating fast (due to the horrors of that Day).

That Day, (many) hearts will be beating fast (due to the horrors of that Day).

Their glances will be lowered or humbled (due to fear or shame).

(The disbelievers deny the Hereafter and) they say: “Shall we really be returned to (our) former state (of life)?”

They say: “It would, in that case, be a return with sheer loss.”

So it will be only a single shout (i.e. second blowing of the Trumpet).

When, suddenly, they would find themselves on the surface of the earth (alive again).

Has the story of Musa ( ) reached you?

When his Creator called him in the sacred valley of Tuwa,

(Instructing him:) “Go to Firaun. Indeed, he has transgressed (a lot).”

       So say (to him): “Would you like to purify yourself (from the sin of disbelief)?”

“And I would like to guide you to your Creator so that you should start fearing Him.”

Then Musa ( ) showed him the great sign (miracles).

But (Firaun) denied and dis-obeyed.

Then he turned his back and strove hard (against the truth).

So he gathered (his people) and then announced loudly,

Then he said: “I am your creator, most high.”

Hence, Allah seized him with the punishment of the Hereafter and with the punishment of this world.

Indeed, there is a lesson in it for those who fear (Allah).

Is it more difficult to create you or the sky which He constructed? (Also see Surah Ghafir:57)

He raised its height, and then perfected it.

And He made its night dark and made its morning (bright).

And, moreover, He spread out the earth.

And brought out from it water and fodder.

And He fixed the mountains (on it) firmly.

For your benefit and for the benefit of your animals.

So when the greatest disaster will come (i.e. the Day of Judge-ment).

The Day when man shall recall to his mind what he strove for.

And Hell-Fire will be put in the view of everyone.

Then he who transgressed,

And preferred the worldly life,

Indeed, his residence will be Hell-Fire.

And he who feared standing before his Creator and withheld himself from worldly lusts.

Then, indeed, Paradise will be his residence.

[O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)!] They ask you about the time of the occurrence of the Day of Judgement.

You do not have to talk about it (since you do not know its timing).

The total extent of its know-ledge belongs to Allah Alone.

[O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)!] You are only a warner for those who fear it.

The Day they will see it, it will appear to them that they lived (in this world) only the last or the first part of a day.
