Al-Qamar
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
1 1The Day of Resurrection has drawn near, (and to confirm this fact) the moon did split. [Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) showed this miracle to the people of Makkah to prove his Prophethood].
2 2And if they see a miracle, they turn away, and say: “This is magic which is continuously coming from earlier times.”
3 3They denied (the truth) and followed their own (evil) desires. And (the result of) every matter will be shown at its fixed time (if not in this world, then definitely in the Hereafter).
4 4And, indeed, they have received the news (of previous communities) containing plenty of warnings (with which they could have followed a sensible Path).
5 5(The Quran) is perfect wisdom but warnings (or threats) did not benefit them.
6 6[O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)!] So just ignore them. (When the Day of Resurrection arrives, they will then realize). The Day when the caller (the angel) will call them to a terrible thing,
7 7They will suddenly come out of their graves with humbled eyes, (in large numbers) as if they were locusts spread all around.
8 8Running towards the caller (without looking back). The dis-believers will say (viewing the horrors of that Day): “This is a hard Day.”
9 9The people of Nuh ( ) denied (their messenger) before them. They not only denied Our slave but also said to him: “A madman!” and rebuked him too. (Also see Surah Ash-Shuara:116)
10 10Then he [Nuh ( )] prayed to his Creator saying: “I have been overpowered, so help me!”
11 11Hence, We opened the gates of the heavens with heavy rain.
12 12And We brought out water from the earth in the form of springs. So the two waters joined for a matter predestined.
13 13And We carried Nuh ( ) and his followers (to save them from the storm) in a ship made of planks and nails.
14 14Which was sailing under Our Protection to reward the person who had been ungratefully rejected.
15 15We have, indeed, made this event as a sign. Is there anyone to seek advise from it?
17 17And indeed, We have made the Quran easy to understand, so is there anyone to seek advice from it?
18 18(The people of) A’d denied [Prophet Hud ( )], so how (ter-rible) was My Torment and My Warning?
19 19Indeed, We sent against them a furious wind on a day of evil omen and continuous (misery).
20 20It threw around people as if they were uprooted stems of palm trees.
22 22And indeed, We have made the Quran easy to understand, so is there anyone to seek advice from it?
24 24So they said: “If we follow a man from ourselves, then, indeed, we would be in great error and in madness.”
25 25(They further said:) “Are the revelations sent to him [Prophet Salih ( )] alone from among us? In fact, he is simply a boastful liar.”
26 26Tomorrow they will come to know who is the boastful liar!
27 27Indeed, We will send the she-camel as a trial for them, so [O Salih ( )!] watch them, and be patient!
28 28And inform them that the water is divided between them (i.e. she-camel and their cattle). Each should drink on its fixed turn.
29 29So they called their companion (to kill the she-camel) and he struck the she-camel (with a weapon) and then killed her.
31 31Indeed, We sent against them a single awful cry, and they became like the tiny pieces of dried-up grass of a fence-builder.
32 32And indeed, We have made the Quran easy to understand, so is there anyone to seek advice from it?
34 34Indeed, We sent against them a tornado showering stones (which destroyed them all) except the family of Lut ( ). We saved them near dawn time,
35 35As a Favour from Us. We reward like this whoever gives thanks to Us (by obeying Us).
36 36And, indeed, Lut ( ) warned them of Our punishment, but they (doubted) and quarrelled with the warner.
37 37They demanded for the guests of Lut ( ) (with bad intention). So We blinded the eyes of the people of Lut ( ), (and Allah said): “So taste My Torment and My Warning.”
38 38And, indeed, an assigned torment struck them early in the morning (and they were des-troyed).
40 40And indeed, We have made the Quran easy to understand, so is there anyone to seek advice from it?
42 42They denied all Our Signs. So We seized them like the Seizure of the Almighty, All-Capable.
43 43(O Quraish of Makkah!) Are your disbelievers better than the disbelievers of these nations? Or have you an immunity (or pardon against Our torment) given in the Scripture?
45 45Soon this huge army will be defeated and they will flee towards their backs (this foretelling was fulfilled in the battles of Badr and Ahzab. This punishment is in this worldly life).
46 46(There will be a bigger punish-ment in the Hereafter) In fact, the Day of Resurrection is their promised time, and it will be much more hard and bitter.
47 47Indeed, the criminals (i.e. dis-believers) have gone astray (in this world) and will be burned (in the Hereafter).
48 48On that Day they will be dragged on their faces in the Fire and (it will be said to them): “Taste the touch of the scorching Fire.”
49 49Indeed, We have created all things with Divine Preordainment (i.e. there is a fixed time for every-thing and also for the Day of Resurrection).
50 50(When the time of the Day of Resurrection comes) then Our Command (for its occurrence) will be like the twinkling of an eye.
51 51And, indeed, We have des-troyed (many) groups like you before; then is there anyone who will learn a lesson from it?
52 52And everything they have done is recorded in (their) Record (of deeds).
53 53And everything, small and big is already written down line by line (in Al-Lauh al-Mahfuz).
