وَلَئِن سَأَلۡتَهُم مَّنۡ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَسَخَّرَ ٱلشَّمۡسَ وَٱلۡقَمَرَ لَيَقُولُنَّ ٱللَّهُۖ فَأَنَّىٰ يُؤۡفَكُونَ 61

61 And if you were to ask them: “Who has created the heavens and the earth and who controls (the performance of) the sun and the moon?” They will surely say: “Allah.” How are they then turning away (from the truth)?

ٱللَّهُ يَبۡسُطُ ٱلرِّزۡقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ مِنۡ عِبَادِهِۦ وَيَقۡدِرُ لَهُۥٓۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِكُلِّ شَيۡءٍ عَلِيمٞ 62

62 Allah provides sustenance in abundance for whom He wills and limits it for whom (He wills). Indeed, Allah is Knower of every-thing.

وَلَئِن سَأَلۡتَهُم مَّن نَّزَّلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءٗ فَأَحۡيَا بِهِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَوۡتِهَا لَيَقُولُنَّ ٱللَّهُۚ قُلِ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِۚ بَلۡ أَكۡثَرُهُمۡ لَا يَعۡقِلُونَ 63

63 And if you were to ask them: “Who sends down rainwater from the sky and re-vives the land with water after its death?” They will surely say: “Allah.” Say: “All praise and thanks are due to Allah (since their confession is a proof against them).” In fact, most of them have no sense.

وَمَا هَٰذِهِ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنۡيَآ إِلَّا لَهۡوٞ وَلَعِبٞۚ وَإِنَّ ٱلدَّارَ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةَ لَهِيَ ٱلۡحَيَوَانُۚ لَوۡ كَانُواْ يَعۡلَمُونَ 64

64 And this worldly life is only fun and play! And, indeed, the real life is that of the Hereafter, if they only knew.

فَإِذَا رَكِبُواْ فِي ٱلۡفُلۡكِ دَعَوُاْ ٱللَّهَ مُخۡلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ فَلَمَّا نَجَّىٰهُمۡ إِلَى ٱلۡبَرِّ إِذَا هُمۡ يُشۡرِكُونَ 65

65 So when they ride on a boat, they pray to Allah with sincere Faith, but when Allah brings them safely to land, they, suddenly, start making partners in worship with Allah.

لِيَكۡفُرُواْ بِمَآ ءَاتَيۡنَٰهُمۡ وَلِيَتَمَتَّعُواْۚ فَسَوۡفَ يَعۡلَمُونَ 66

66 So that they may be ungrateful for which We have given them while they continue benefiting from that, so they shall soon come to know (the result of it).

أَوَلَمۡ يَرَوۡاْ أَنَّا جَعَلۡنَا حَرَمًا ءَامِنٗا وَيُتَخَطَّفُ ٱلنَّاسُ مِنۡ حَوۡلِهِمۡۚ أَفَبِٱلۡبَٰطِلِ يُؤۡمِنُونَ وَبِنِعۡمَةِ ٱللَّهِ يَكۡفُرُونَ 67

67 Have they not seen that We have made Haram (Makkah) a place of peace and security and people (and their belongings) are being snatched away from all around them? (Hence, it is a great favour of Allah that you are living in a peace-ful place), do they still believe in the falsehood and deny the Favours of Allah? 

وَمَنۡ أَظۡلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفۡتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا أَوۡ كَذَّبَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَهُۥٓۚ أَلَيۡسَ فِي جَهَنَّمَ مَثۡوٗى لِّلۡكَٰفِرِينَ 68

68 And who is more unjust than he who coins a lie against Allah (without proof) or denies the truth [i.e. Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) and his teachings] when it has come to him (with proofs). Will such disbelievers not have a residence in Hell?

وَٱلَّذِينَ جَٰهَدُواْ فِينَا لَنَهۡدِيَنَّهُمۡ سُبُلَنَاۚ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَمَعَ ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ 69

69 As for those who bear hard-ships in Allah’s Cause, We will surely guide them to Our Paths (i.e. Allah’s Religion). And, indeed, Allah is with the good-doers (in this world and in the Hereafter).

الٓمٓ 1

1 Alif-Lam-Mim (Allah, Alone, knows their meanings)

غُلِبَتِ ٱلرُّومُ 2

2 The Romans have been defeat-ed (by the Persians).

فِيٓ أَدۡنَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَهُم مِّنۢ بَعۡدِ غَلَبِهِمۡ سَيَغۡلِبُونَ 3

3 In the nearby land [i.e.(i) which is nearer to Arabia than Persia and (ii) in the city of Basra in Syria which was under the Roman empire]. And they, after their defeat, will soon dominate them,

فِي بِضۡعِ سِنِينَۗ لِلَّهِ ٱلۡأَمۡرُ مِن قَبۡلُ وَمِنۢ بَعۡدُۚ وَيَوۡمَئِذٖ يَفۡرَحُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ 4

4 In a few years (i.e. within three to nine years). Their earlier (defeat) and their later (victory) are due to Allah’s decision. And on that day the believers will re-joice (at the victory of the Romans against the Persians),

بِنَصۡرِ ٱللَّهِۚ يَنصُرُ مَن يَشَآءُۖ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ 5

5 With the help of Allah. Allah helps whom He wills. And He is the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.

وَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِۖ لَا يُخۡلِفُ ٱللَّهُ وَعۡدَهُۥ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ 6

6 It is a promise of Allah and Allah does not break His promise, but people don’t know (the Decisions of Allah).

يَعۡلَمُونَ ظَٰهِرٗا مِّنَ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡيَا وَهُمۡ عَنِ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ هُمۡ غَٰفِلُونَ 7

7 They only know the apparent (circumstances) of this worldly life but they are totally heedless about the Hereafter.

أَوَلَمۡ يَتَفَكَّرُواْ فِيٓ أَنفُسِهِمۗ مَّا خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَأَجَلٖ مُّسَمّٗىۗ وَإِنَّ كَثِيرٗا مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِ بِلِقَآيِٕ رَبِّهِمۡ لَكَٰفِرُونَ 8

8 Do they not ponder deep in their hearts that Allah has created the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them (e.g. plasma), with wisdom and for a fixed term? And, indeed, most of the people deny their meeting with their Crea-tor. (Also see 15:85, 19:65, 20:6, 21:16, 25:59, 29:8, 32:4) 

أَوَلَمۡ يَسِيرُواْ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَيَنظُرُواْ كَيۡفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡۚ كَانُوٓاْ أَشَدَّ مِنۡهُمۡ قُوَّةٗ وَأَثَارُواْ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَعَمَرُوهَآ أَكۡثَرَ مِمَّا عَمَرُوهَا وَجَآءَتۡهُمۡ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتِۖ فَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيَظۡلِمَهُمۡ وَلَٰكِن كَانُوٓاْ أَنفُسَهُمۡ يَظۡلِمُونَ 9

9 Do they not travel in the land, and observe what the end of those (disbeliev-ers) was before them? They were much more powerful, and they tilled the land and populated (or built upon) it more than them (the residents of Makkah) and their messengers came to them with clear proofs. In fact, Allah did not wrong them, but they used to wrong themselves.

ثُمَّ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسَٰٓـُٔواْ ٱلسُّوٓأَىٰٓ أَن كَذَّبُواْ بِ‍َٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَكَانُواْ بِهَا يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ 10

10 Then evil was the end of those who committed evil since they not only de-nied Allah’s revelations but also mocked at them (mocking is the worst kind of denial). 

ٱللَّهُ يَبۡدَؤُاْ ٱلۡخَلۡقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُۥ ثُمَّ إِلَيۡهِ تُرۡجَعُونَ 11

11 Allah (Alone) created every-thing initially, then He shall create it again (on the Day of Resurrection) then you will be returned to Him (for the accountabil-ity).
