فَوَيۡلٞ لِّلۡمُصَلِّينَ       4

4  So woe to those who, (though, they) perform Salat, (Also see Surah An-Nisa:142)

ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَن صَلَاتِهِمۡ سَاهُونَ 5

5 But are careless about their Salat (all situations are included (i) they quit Salat (ii) are lazy in of-fering (iii) perform without concentration and without follow-ing sunnah).

ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ يُرَآءُونَ 6

6    Those who offer (Salat) only to show off (with hypocrisy)

وَيَمۡنَعُونَ ٱلۡمَاعُونَ 7

7 And deny even tiny favour (to neighbours like salt, sugar etc. Some scholars say tiny favours mean that they withhold Zakat since it is a tiny part of the income).

إِنَّآ أَعۡطَيۡنَٰكَ ٱلۡكَوۡثَرَ 1

1 [O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)!] Indeed, We have granted you a river in Paradise (or, We have granted you a lot of goodness in the Hereafter – Ibn Kathir). .

فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَٱنۡحَرۡ 2

2 (To thank for this favour) so pray to your Creator and offer sacrifice (to Him only).

إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ ٱلۡأَبۡتَرُ 3

3 Indeed, your enemy will have no name or relatives in future (while Prophet Muhammad’s (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) name is announced with honour at least five times a day throughout the universe till the Day of Judgement)

قُلۡ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ 1

1 [O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)!] Say: “O disbe-lievers (in Allah. My path and your path cannot be same).”

لَآ أَعۡبُدُ مَا تَعۡبُدُونَ 2

2 “I don’t worship that which you worship.”

وَلَآ أَنتُمۡ عَٰبِدُونَ مَآ أَعۡبُدُ 3

3 “Nor will you worship that which I worship.”

وَلَآ أَنَا۠ عَابِدٞ مَّا عَبَدتُّمۡ 4

4 “And I shall not worship (in the manner) you are worshipping.”

وَلَآ أَنتُمۡ عَٰبِدُونَ مَآ أَعۡبُدُ 5

5 “Nor will you worship (in the manner) I am worshipping.”

لَكُمۡ دِينُكُمۡ وَلِيَ دِينِ 6

6 “Your religion is for you, and my religion is for me.” (Also see Surah Al-Qasas:55).

إِذَا جَآءَ نَصۡرُ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡفَتۡحُ 1

1 [O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)!] When the help of Allah and (signs of) the conquest (of Makkah) come.

وَرَأَيۡتَ ٱلنَّاسَ يَدۡخُلُونَ فِي دِينِ ٱللَّهِ أَفۡوَاجٗا 2

2 (The signs of conquest are that) you will see the people embracing Islam in large groups.

فَسَبِّحۡ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّكَ وَٱسۡتَغۡفِرۡهُۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ تَوَّابَۢا 3

3 (Then you should understand that your mission of propagation of Islam in this world is completed and as a preparation for the Hereafter) Hence, (you should) Glorify the praise of your Creator and ask His Forgiveness. Indeed, He loves to accept repentance.

تَبَّتۡ يَدَآ أَبِي لَهَبٖ وَتَبَّ 1

1 May the two hands of Abu Lahab perish! (This is a supplication and its result is there and he did perish by an awful disease after the battle of Badr). 

مَآ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنۡهُ مَالُهُۥ وَمَا كَسَبَ 2

2 His wealth and its profit (or his children) did not benefit him (against this destruction). (This is the punishment for him in the worldly life).

سَيَصۡلَىٰ نَارٗا ذَاتَ لَهَبٖ 3

3 He will soon (as soon as he dies) be thrown in a Fire of roaring flame!

وَٱمۡرَأَتُهُۥ حَمَّالَةَ ٱلۡحَطَبِ 4

4 And his wife too, who carries (thorny) wood. [Which she used to put in the path of Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)].
