قَالَ يَٰقَوۡمِ إِنِّي لَكُمۡ نَذِيرٞ مُّبِينٌ 2

2 Nuh ( peace be upon him )   said: “O my people! Indeed, I am a clear warner to you,”

أَنِ ٱعۡبُدُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَٱتَّقُوهُ وَأَطِيعُونِ 3

3 “That you should worship Allah (Alone), and fear Him, and obey me.”

يَغۡفِرۡ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمۡ وَيُؤَخِّرۡكُمۡ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٖ مُّسَمًّىۚ إِنَّ أَجَلَ ٱللَّهِ إِذَا جَآءَ لَا يُؤَخَّرُۚ لَوۡ كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ 4

4 “He will forgive your sins and will grant you delay (i.e. increase your life span by the blessing of the Faith) till an appointed hour. Indeed, when that appointed hour comes it cannot be delayed (a bit), if you understand.”

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي دَعَوۡتُ قَوۡمِي لَيۡلٗا وَنَهَارٗا 5

5 Nuh ( peace be upon him )   said: “O my Creator! Indeed, I have invited my people (towards true religion) during the night and the day.”

فَلَمۡ يَزِدۡهُمۡ دُعَآءِيٓ إِلَّا فِرَارٗا 6

6 “But my invitation made them flee even more (from the truth).”

وَإِنِّي كُلَّمَا دَعَوۡتُهُمۡ لِتَغۡفِرَ لَهُمۡ جَعَلُوٓاْ أَصَٰبِعَهُمۡ فِيٓ ءَاذَانِهِمۡ وَٱسۡتَغۡشَوۡاْ ثِيَابَهُمۡ وَأَصَرُّواْ وَٱسۡتَكۡبَرُواْ ٱسۡتِكۡبَارٗا 7

7 “(This fleeing is like this). And, indeed, every time I invited them so that You may forgive them, they thrust their fingers in their ears (so that they don’t even hear the truth due to their extreme hatred), and wrapped clothes all over them (so that they don’t even see the caller of the truth), and they persisted (in their disbelief), and displayed extreme arrogance.”

ثُمَّ إِنِّي دَعَوۡتُهُمۡ جِهَارٗا 8

8 “Then I invited them loudly (as in an address).”

ثُمَّ إِنِّيٓ أَعۡلَنتُ لَهُمۡ وَأَسۡرَرۡتُ لَهُمۡ إِسۡرَارٗا 9

9 “Then I invited them openly (or publicly) as well as secretly (or privately).”

فَقُلۡتُ ٱسۡتَغۡفِرُواْ رَبَّكُمۡ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ غَفَّارٗا 10

10 “So I said (to them): ‘Ask for-give-ness from your Creator. Indeed, He is Very-Forgiving,

يُرۡسِلِ ٱلسَّمَآءَ عَلَيۡكُم مِّدۡرَارٗا 11

11 ‘He will send upon you (rain) from the sky in abundance, (i.e. He will grant you worldly benefits too).

وَيُمۡدِدۡكُم بِأَمۡوَٰلٖ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجۡعَل لَّكُمۡ جَنَّٰتٖ وَيَجۡعَل لَّكُمۡ أَنۡهَٰرٗا 12

12 And He will increase your wealth and children and will grant you gardens and rivers.’”

مَّا لَكُمۡ لَا تَرۡجُونَ لِلَّهِ وَقَارٗا 13

13 What is the matter with you that you don’t believe in the Great-ness of Allah (i.e. fear Allah and hope for reward from Allah).

وَقَدۡ خَلَقَكُمۡ أَطۡوَارًا 14

14 While He has created you in different stages. (Also see Surah Al-Muminun:13 and 14)

أَلَمۡ تَرَوۡاْ كَيۡفَ خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ سَبۡعَ سَمَٰوَٰتٖ طِبَاقٗا 15

15 Don’t you see how Allah has created the seven skies one above another

وَجَعَلَ ٱلۡقَمَرَ فِيهِنَّ نُورٗا وَجَعَلَ ٱلشَّمۡسَ سِرَاجٗا 16

16 And has made the moon with reflected light and the sun as a lamp (i.e. the sun has its own light) in this system? (Allah informed about it long time ago, but man discovered it recently). (Also see 10:5 and 25:61)

وَٱللَّهُ أَنۢبَتَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ نَبَاتٗا 17

17 And Allah has brought you forth from the earth (i.e. created you).

ثُمَّ يُعِيدُكُمۡ فِيهَا وَيُخۡرِجُكُمۡ إِخۡرَاجٗا 18

18 Then He will return you to the earth and (finally) will bring you out from the earth (on the Day of Resurrection).

وَٱللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ بِسَاطٗا 19

19 And Allah has made for you the earth as a very wide floor.

لِّتَسۡلُكُواْ مِنۡهَا سُبُلٗا فِجَاجٗا 20

20 So that you can travel in it on its wide roadways.

قَالَ نُوحٞ رَّبِّ إِنَّهُمۡ عَصَوۡنِي وَٱتَّبَعُواْ مَن لَّمۡ يَزِدۡهُ مَالُهُۥ وَوَلَدُهُۥٓ إِلَّا خَسَارٗا 21

21 Nuh ( peace be upon him )   said: “O my Creator! Indeed, they have disobeyed me and they obeyed those whose wealth and children (definitely) caused them mere loss.”
