قَالَ يَٰقَوۡمِ لَيۡسَ بِي سَفَاهَةٞ وَلَٰكِنِّي رَسُولٞ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ 67

67        [Hud ( peace be upon him )] said: “O my people! There is no foolishness in me, but I am a messenger from the Creator of all the universe.

أُبَلِّغُكُمۡ رِسَٰلَٰتِ رَبِّي وَأَنَا۠ لَكُمۡ نَاصِحٌ أَمِينٌ 68

68        “I deliver to you the message of my Creator and I am a trustworthy adviser for you.

أَوَعَجِبۡتُمۡ أَن جَآءَكُمۡ ذِكۡرٞ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ عَلَىٰ رَجُلٖ مِّنكُمۡ لِيُنذِرَكُمۡۚ وَٱذۡكُرُوٓاْ إِذۡ جَعَلَكُمۡ خُلَفَآءَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ قَوۡمِ نُوحٖ وَزَادَكُمۡ فِي ٱلۡخَلۡقِ بَصۜۡطَةٗۖ فَٱذۡكُرُوٓاْ ءَالَآءَ ٱللَّهِ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُفۡلِحُونَ 69

69        “Are you surprised that there has come to you an advice from your Creator through a man from amongst you to warn you? And remember that Allah made you successors after the people of Nuh ( peace be upon him ) and increased you a lot in stature. Hence, remember the favours of Allah so that you may be successful.”

قَالُوٓاْ أَجِئۡتَنَا لِنَعۡبُدَ ٱللَّهَ وَحۡدَهُۥ وَنَذَرَ مَا كَانَ يَعۡبُدُ ءَابَآؤُنَا فَأۡتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَآ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ 70

70        They said: “Have you come to us so that we should worship Allah Alone and leave those (idols) which our forefathers used to worship? So bring us that (torment) with which you threaten us, if you are truthful.” (Also Surah Al-Anfal:32)

قَالَ قَدۡ وَقَعَ عَلَيۡكُم مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ رِجۡسٞ وَغَضَبٌۖ أَتُجَٰدِلُونَنِي فِيٓ أَسۡمَآءٖ سَمَّيۡتُمُوهَآ أَنتُمۡ وَءَابَآؤُكُم مَّا نَزَّلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلۡطَٰنٖۚ فَٱنتَظِرُوٓاْ إِنِّي مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡمُنتَظِرِينَ 71

71        Hud ( peace be upon him ) said: “The torment and Wrath of your Creator is about to fall on you. Do you quarrel with me over the (superficial) names which you and your forefathers have coined while you have no proof or authority from Allah (to make them your gods)? (Now stop quarrelling) so wait (for the torment), and I am with you among those who wait.”

فَأَنجَيۡنَٰهُ وَٱلَّذِينَ مَعَهُۥ بِرَحۡمَةٖ مِّنَّا وَقَطَعۡنَا دَابِرَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِ‍َٔايَٰتِنَاۖ وَمَا كَانُواْ مُؤۡمِنِينَ 72

72        Hence, We saved Hud ( peace be upon him ) and those who were with him (believers) through Our Mercy and We cut the roots of those who denied Our revelations since they were never going to believe. 

وَإِلَىٰ ثَمُودَ أَخَاهُمۡ صَٰلِحٗاۚ قَالَ يَٰقَوۡمِ ٱعۡبُدُواْ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَٰهٍ غَيۡرُهُۥۖ قَدۡ جَآءَتۡكُم بَيِّنَةٞ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡۖ هَٰذِهِۦ نَاقَةُ ٱللَّهِ لَكُمۡ ءَايَةٗۖ فَذَرُوهَا تَأۡكُلۡ فِيٓ أَرۡضِ ٱللَّهِۖ وَلَا تَمَسُّوهَا بِسُوٓءٖ فَيَأۡخُذَكُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٞ 73

73        And to Thamud (people, We sent) their brother Salih ( peace be upon him ) (as a messenger). Salih ( peace be upon him ) said: “O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other God except Him. Indeed, you have witnessed a miracle from your Creator (of the coming out of a she-camel from a rock, as you demanded). This she-camel is a clear proof (of my Prophethood). So you leave this she-camel to graze in Allah’s earth (freely), and don’t touch her with any harm lest a painful torment should seize you.

وَٱذۡكُرُوٓاْ إِذۡ جَعَلَكُمۡ خُلَفَآءَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ عَادٖ وَبَوَّأَكُمۡ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ تَتَّخِذُونَ مِن سُهُولِهَا قُصُورٗا وَتَنۡحِتُونَ ٱلۡجِبَالَ بُيُوتٗاۖ فَٱذۡكُرُوٓاْ ءَالَآءَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا تَعۡثَوۡاْ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مُفۡسِدِينَ 74

74        “And remember when Allah made you successor after A’d (people) and established you on the land (according to your wishes). You build (huge) palaces in the soft land and carve out homes in the mountains. Hence, don’t forget the favours of Allah and don’t go around spreading mischief on the earth.”

قَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُواْ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦ لِلَّذِينَ ٱسۡتُضۡعِفُواْ لِمَنۡ ءَامَنَ مِنۡهُمۡ أَتَعۡلَمُونَ أَنَّ صَٰلِحٗا مُّرۡسَلٞ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦۚ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّا بِمَآ أُرۡسِلَ بِهِۦ مُؤۡمِنُونَ 75

75        The leaders of those who were arrogant among his people said to those who were believers but were weak (and poor). “Are you sure that Salih ( peace be upon him ) is sent as a messenger from his Creator?” The poor (and weak) people said: “We, indeed, believe in what he has been sent with.”

قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوٓاْ إِنَّا بِٱلَّذِيٓ ءَامَنتُم بِهِۦ كَٰفِرُونَ 76

76        Those who were arrogant said: “Indeed, we disbelieve in that which you believe in.”

فَعَقَرُواْ ٱلنَّاقَةَ وَعَتَوۡاْ عَنۡ أَمۡرِ رَبِّهِمۡ وَقَالُواْ يَٰصَٰلِحُ ٱئۡتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَآ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ 77

77        Hence, they killed the she-camel and they rebelled against the Commandment of their Creator, and said (rudely): “O Salih ( peace be upon him )! Bring about what you threaten us with if you are, indeed, one of the messengers of Allah.”

فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلرَّجۡفَةُ فَأَصۡبَحُواْ فِي دَارِهِمۡ جَٰثِمِينَ 78

78        Hence, the earthquake seized them and they lay dead on their faces in their homes.

فَتَوَلَّىٰ عَنۡهُمۡ وَقَالَ يَٰقَوۡمِ لَقَدۡ أَبۡلَغۡتُكُمۡ رِسَالَةَ رَبِّي وَنَصَحۡتُ لَكُمۡ وَلَٰكِن لَّا تُحِبُّونَ ٱلنَّٰصِحِينَ 79

79        Then Salih ( peace be upon him ) walked away from them, saying: “O my people! I have, indeed, conveyed the message of my Creator to you and I have given you (sincere) advice but you don’t like the (sincere) advisors.”

وَلُوطًا إِذۡ قَالَ لِقَوۡمِهِۦٓ أَتَأۡتُونَ ٱلۡفَٰحِشَةَ مَا سَبَقَكُم بِهَا مِنۡ أَحَدٖ مِّنَ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ 80

80        And (remember) Lut ( peace be upon him ) when he said to his people: “Do you en-gage yourselves in obscene activi-ties which none did before you in the universe.

إِنَّكُمۡ لَتَأۡتُونَ ٱلرِّجَالَ شَهۡوَةٗ مِّن دُونِ ٱلنِّسَآءِۚ بَلۡ أَنتُمۡ قَوۡمٞ مُّسۡرِفُونَ 81

81        “You satisfy your sexual lust with men instead of women. In fact, you have transgressed beyond (human) limits (in this activity).”

وَمَا كَانَ جَوَابَ قَوۡمِهِۦٓ إِلَّآ أَن قَالُوٓاْ أَخۡرِجُوهُم مِّن قَرۡيَتِكُمۡۖ إِنَّهُمۡ أُنَاسٞ يَتَطَهَّرُونَ 82

82        His people had no reasonable answer for him, except they said (to each other): “Turn them out from your town since they claim to be pure people (i.e. pure from sins).”

فَأَنجَيۡنَٰهُ وَأَهۡلَهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱمۡرَأَتَهُۥ كَانَتۡ مِنَ ٱلۡغَٰبِرِينَ 83

83        (Finally a torment struck them) so We saved Lut ( peace be upon him ) and his family except his wife; she was one of those who remained behind (in the torment).

وَأَمۡطَرۡنَا عَلَيۡهِم مَّطَرٗاۖ فَٱنظُرۡ كَيۡفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ 84

84        And We rained on them (a new kind of) rain (of stones). So see what the end of the criminals was.

وَإِلَىٰ مَدۡيَنَ أَخَاهُمۡ شُعَيۡبٗاۚ قَالَ يَٰقَوۡمِ ٱعۡبُدُواْ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَٰهٍ غَيۡرُهُۥۖ قَدۡ جَآءَتۡكُم بَيِّنَةٞ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡۖ فَأَوۡفُواْ ٱلۡكَيۡلَ وَٱلۡمِيزَانَ وَلَا تَبۡخَسُواْ ٱلنَّاسَ أَشۡيَآءَهُمۡ وَلَا تُفۡسِدُواْ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ بَعۡدَ إِصۡلَٰحِهَاۚ ذَٰلِكُمۡ خَيۡرٞ لَّكُمۡ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ 85

85        And to (the people of) Madyan, (We sent) their brother Shuaib ( peace be upon him ). He said: “O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other God but Him.” Indeed, a clear proof (about my Prophethood) has come to you from your Creator. So give full measure and full weight, and don’t deprive the people of their things, and don’t spread mischief in the land after it has been reformed. This will be better for you, if you are believers.

وَلَا تَقۡعُدُواْ بِكُلِّ صِرَٰطٖ تُوعِدُونَ وَتَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ مَنۡ ءَامَنَ بِهِۦ وَتَبۡغُونَهَا عِوَجٗاۚ وَٱذۡكُرُوٓاْ إِذۡ كُنتُمۡ قَلِيلٗا فَكَثَّرَكُمۡۖ وَٱنظُرُواْ كَيۡفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡمُفۡسِدِينَ 86

86        “And don’t sit on every road, threatening and hindering from the Path of Allah those people who believe in Allah, and seeking crookedness in it. And remember when you were only a few (in number or wealth), and Allah increased (your numbers and/or wealth). And see what the end of the mischief-makers was.
