فَٱجۡتَبَٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَجَعَلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ 50

50 So his Creator chose him (again) and made him from the righteous people (of still higher level).

وَإِن يَكَادُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لَيُزۡلِقُونَكَ بِأَبۡصَٰرِهِمۡ لَمَّا سَمِعُواْ ٱلذِّكۡرَ وَيَقُولُونَ إِنَّهُۥ لَمَجۡنُونٞ 51

51 [O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)! If Allah’s help and protection was not there for you] then you would have slipped by the jealous sight of the disbelievers, when they listen to the Quran (Ibn-Kathir). And they say: “Indeed, he [Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)] is a mad man!” (Hence, the disbelievers tried to harm Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) with their eyes and tongues).

وَمَا هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكۡرٞ لِّلۡعَٰلَمِينَ 52

52 [O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)! ٱلۡحَآقَّةُ 1

1 The Inevitable (a sure reality; i.e. The Day of Resurrection)

مَا ٱلۡحَآقَّةُ 2

2 What is the Inevitable?

وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡحَآقَّةُ 3

3 And you don’t know what the Inevitable is like (since you have not seen it)?

كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُودُ وَعَادُۢ بِٱلۡقَارِعَةِ 4

4 Thamud (people) and A’d (people) denied the striking power (of the Day of Resurrection).

فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهۡلِكُواْ بِٱلطَّاغِيَةِ 5

5 As for Thamud (people), they were destroyed by an extremely awful cry!

وَأَمَّا عَادٞ فَأُهۡلِكُواْ بِرِيحٖ صَرۡصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٖ 6

6 And as for A’d (people), they were destroyed by an extremely violent wind.

سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ سَبۡعَ لَيَالٖ وَثَمَٰنِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومٗاۖ فَتَرَى ٱلۡقَوۡمَ فِيهَا صَرۡعَىٰ كَأَنَّهُمۡ أَعۡجَازُ نَخۡلٍ خَاوِيَةٖ 7

7 It was thrust upon them for seven nights and eight days contin-uously, so that you could see people lying on the ground like hollow trunks of palm tree!

فَهَلۡ تَرَىٰ لَهُم مِّنۢ بَاقِيَةٖ 8

8 So do you see any of them who survived? (None).

وَجَآءَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ وَمَن قَبۡلَهُۥ وَٱلۡمُؤۡتَفِكَٰتُ بِٱلۡخَاطِئَةِ 9

9 And Firaun, and those before him, and the towns which were overturned [i.e. towns of the people of Lut ( peace be upon him )  ], they also committed sins.

فَعَصَوۡاْ رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمۡ فَأَخَذَهُمۡ أَخۡذَةٗ رَّابِيَةً 10

10 So they disobeyed the mes-sengers of their Creator, then Allah (also) seized them with a severe punishment.

إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَا ٱلۡمَآءُ حَمَلۡنَٰكُمۡ فِي ٱلۡجَارِيَةِ 11

11 When flood water rose very high, We carried you in the boat [of Nuh ( peace be upon him )  ].

لِنَجۡعَلَهَا لَكُمۡ تَذۡكِرَةٗ وَتَعِيَهَآ أُذُنٞ وَٰعِيَةٞ 12

12 So that We make it a reminder for you and that the attentive ears might retain this information (i.e. learn a lesson from it).

فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِي ٱلصُّورِ نَفۡخَةٞ وَٰحِدَةٞ 13

13 When only one blowing will be made in the Trumpet (the Inevitable will take place).

وَحُمِلَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَٱلۡجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةٗ وَٰحِدَةٗ 14

14 And the earth and the moun-tains shall be removed from their locations, and they will be crushed into tiny particles with just one strike.

فَيَوۡمَئِذٖ وَقَعَتِ ٱلۡوَاقِعَةُ 15

15 Then on that Day the (Great) Event shall take place.

وَٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَهِيَ يَوۡمَئِذٖ وَاهِيَةٞ 16

16 And the sky will split apart, and it (the sky) will be fragile (or flimsy) that Day.

وَٱلۡمَلَكُ عَلَىٰٓ أَرۡجَآئِهَاۚ وَيَحۡمِلُ عَرۡشَ رَبِّكَ فَوۡقَهُمۡ يَوۡمَئِذٖ ثَمَٰنِيَةٞ 17

17 And the angels will be on its edges. And, that Day, eight angels will carry the Throne of your Creator above them.
