۞وَلَقَدۡ أَخَذَ ٱللَّهُ مِيثَٰقَ بَنِيٓ إِسۡرَٰٓءِيلَ وَبَعَثۡنَا مِنۡهُمُ ٱثۡنَيۡ عَشَرَ نَقِيبٗاۖ وَقَالَ ٱللَّهُ إِنِّي مَعَكُمۡۖ لَئِنۡ أَقَمۡتُمُ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتَيۡتُمُ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَءَامَنتُم بِرُسُلِي وَعَزَّرۡتُمُوهُمۡ وَأَقۡرَضۡتُمُ ٱللَّهَ قَرۡضًا حَسَنٗا لَّأُكَفِّرَنَّ عَنكُمۡ سَيِّ‍َٔاتِكُمۡ وَلَأُدۡخِلَنَّكُمۡ جَنَّٰتٖ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُۚ فَمَن كَفَرَ بَعۡدَ ذَٰلِكَ مِنكُمۡ فَقَدۡ ضَلَّ سَوَآءَ ٱلسَّبِيلِ 12

12        And, indeed, Allah took the promise from the Children of Israel (Jews), and We appointed twelve leaders among them. And Allah said: “I am with you if you perform Salat, and give Zakat and believe in My messengers, and strengthen them, and lend a good loan to Allah, I will, indeed, remove your sins and admit you to Gardens beneath which rivers flow (in Paradise). But if any of you would disbelieve after this (agreement), he has, indeed, gone astray from the Straight Path.”

فَبِمَا نَقۡضِهِم مِّيثَٰقَهُمۡ لَعَنَّٰهُمۡ وَجَعَلۡنَا قُلُوبَهُمۡ قَٰسِيَةٗۖ يُحَرِّفُونَ ٱلۡكَلِمَ عَن مَّوَاضِعِهِۦ وَنَسُواْ حَظّٗا مِّمَّا ذُكِّرُواْ بِهِۦۚ وَلَا تَزَالُ تَطَّلِعُ عَلَىٰ خَآئِنَةٖ مِّنۡهُمۡ إِلَّا قَلِيلٗا مِّنۡهُمۡۖ فَٱعۡفُ عَنۡهُمۡ وَٱصۡفَحۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ 13

13        Hence, because of their breach of their promise, We cursed them and hardened their hearts. They changed words from their context and they ignored a large part of the advice given to them. You will continously learn about their dishonesty, except for a few of them. Hence, forgive them and overlook (their mistakes). Indeed, Allah loves the good-doers.

وَمِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّا نَصَٰرَىٰٓ أَخَذۡنَا مِيثَٰقَهُمۡ فَنَسُواْ حَظّٗا مِّمَّا ذُكِّرُواْ بِهِۦ فَأَغۡرَيۡنَا بَيۡنَهُمُ ٱلۡعَدَاوَةَ وَٱلۡبَغۡضَآءَ إِلَىٰ يَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِۚ وَسَوۡفَ يُنَبِّئُهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَصۡنَعُونَ 14

14        And from those who call themselves Christians, We took a promise and they (also) ignored a large part of the advice given to them. Hence, We have caused enmity and hatred among them till the Day of Resurrection, and Allah will soon inform them of what they used to do.

يَٰٓأَهۡلَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ قَدۡ جَآءَكُمۡ رَسُولُنَا يُبَيِّنُ لَكُمۡ كَثِيرٗا مِّمَّا كُنتُمۡ تُخۡفُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ وَيَعۡفُواْ عَن كَثِيرٖۚ قَدۡ جَآءَكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ نُورٞ وَكِتَٰبٞ مُّبِينٞ 15

15        And from those who call themselves Christians, We took a promise and they (also) ignored a large part of the advice given to them. Hence, We have caused enmity and hatred among them till the Day of Resurrection, and Allah will soon inform them of what they used to do.

يَهۡدِي بِهِ ٱللَّهُ مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ رِضۡوَٰنَهُۥ سُبُلَ ٱلسَّلَٰمِ وَيُخۡرِجُهُم مِّنَ ٱلظُّلُمَٰتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِ بِإِذۡنِهِۦ وَيَهۡدِيهِمۡ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٖ مُّسۡتَقِيمٖ 16

16        Allah guides with this (Book) all those who seek His Good Pleasure to the paths of peace, and, He brings them out of (all forms of) darkness (or ignorance) into light and guides them to the Straight Path.

لَّقَدۡ كَفَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلۡمَسِيحُ ٱبۡنُ مَرۡيَمَۚ قُلۡ فَمَن يَمۡلِكُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ شَيۡ‍ًٔا إِنۡ أَرَادَ أَن يُهۡلِكَ ٱلۡمَسِيحَ ٱبۡنَ مَرۡيَمَ وَأُمَّهُۥ وَمَن فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ جَمِيعٗاۗ وَلِلَّهِ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَاۚ يَخۡلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ قَدِيرٞ 17

17        Indeed, those are the dis-believers who say that Allah is Messiah, son of Maryam. Say [O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)!]: “Who has any power over Allah, if Allah were to destroy Messiah, son of Maryam, his mother, and all those on the earth?” It is Allah’s Sovereignty in the heavens and the earth and all that is between them. Allah creates what He wills. And Allah is Able to do all things.

وَقَالَتِ ٱلۡيَهُودُ وَٱلنَّصَٰرَىٰ نَحۡنُ أَبۡنَٰٓؤُاْ ٱللَّهِ وَأَحِبَّٰٓؤُهُۥۚ قُلۡ فَلِمَ يُعَذِّبُكُم بِذُنُوبِكُمۖ بَلۡ أَنتُم بَشَرٞ مِّمَّنۡ خَلَقَۚ يَغۡفِرُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيُعَذِّبُ مَن يَشَآءُۚ وَلِلَّهِ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَاۖ وَإِلَيۡهِ ٱلۡمَصِيرُ 18

18        And (both) the Jews and Christians say: “We are children of Allah and His loved ones.” Say: “Why then does He punish you for your sins?” In fact, you are human beings which Allah has created, He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. It is Allah’s Sovereignty in the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, and all will return to Allah.

يَٰٓأَهۡلَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ قَدۡ جَآءَكُمۡ رَسُولُنَا يُبَيِّنُ لَكُمۡ عَلَىٰ فَتۡرَةٖ مِّنَ ٱلرُّسُلِ أَن تَقُولُواْ مَا جَآءَنَا مِنۢ بَشِيرٖ وَلَا نَذِيرٖۖ فَقَدۡ جَآءَكُم بَشِيرٞ وَنَذِيرٞۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ قَدِيرٞ 19

19        O people of the Scripture! Our messenger [Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)] has come to you after an interval in (the series of) messengers to describe things clearly, lest you say: “Nobody came to us with a glad tiding, nor with any warning.” Hence, now has come to you one who conveys to you the glad tidings and warnings. And Allah is Able to do all things.

وَإِذۡ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوۡمِهِۦ يَٰقَوۡمِ ٱذۡكُرُواْ نِعۡمَةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيۡكُمۡ إِذۡ جَعَلَ فِيكُمۡ أَنۢبِيَآءَ وَجَعَلَكُم مُّلُوكٗا وَءَاتَىٰكُم مَّا لَمۡ يُؤۡتِ أَحَدٗا مِّنَ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ 20

20        And (remember) when Musa (peace be upon him) said to his people: “O my people! Remember the favours of Allah to you when He made Prophets among you and also made kings among you and gave you what He did not give to any other among the mankind and jinn (of your time).

يَٰقَوۡمِ ٱدۡخُلُواْ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ ٱلۡمُقَدَّسَةَ ٱلَّتِي كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمۡ وَلَا تَرۡتَدُّواْ عَلَىٰٓ أَدۡبَارِكُمۡ فَتَنقَلِبُواْ خَٰسِرِينَ 21

21        “O my people! Enter the holy land (Palestine) (with the intention of Jihad) which Allah has written for you. (Hence, by advancing towards it, you will definitely be victorious) and don’t turn your backs (i.e. don’t flee), for then you will be losers.” (i.e. deprived of kingdom in this world and will be sinful in the Hereafter for ignoring Jihad).

قَالُواْ يَٰمُوسَىٰٓ إِنَّ فِيهَا قَوۡمٗا جَبَّارِينَ وَإِنَّا لَن نَّدۡخُلَهَا حَتَّىٰ يَخۡرُجُواْ مِنۡهَا فَإِن يَخۡرُجُواْ مِنۡهَا فَإِنَّا دَٰخِلُونَ 22

22        They said “O Musa (peace be upon him)! There are extremely powerful people residing in it (in this land), and we shall never enter it till they leave, so when they leave, then we will enter.”

قَالَ رَجُلَانِ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَخَافُونَ أَنۡعَمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيۡهِمَا ٱدۡخُلُواْ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلۡبَابَ فَإِذَا دَخَلۡتُمُوهُ فَإِنَّكُمۡ غَٰلِبُونَۚ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَتَوَكَّلُوٓاْ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ 23

23        Two men, who feared Allah and on whom Allah’s Grace was bes-towed (Yusha and Kalab ), said: “Attack them through the gate. When you enter the gate, victory will be yours; and put your trust in Allah if you are (true) believers.”

قَالُواْ يَٰمُوسَىٰٓ إِنَّا لَن نَّدۡخُلَهَآ أَبَدٗا مَّا دَامُواْ فِيهَا فَٱذۡهَبۡ أَنتَ وَرَبُّكَ فَقَٰتِلَآ إِنَّا هَٰهُنَا قَٰعِدُونَ 24

24        They said: “O Musa (peace be upon him)! We shall never enter it as long as they remain there. So you go and your Creator and two of you fight with them, we are sitting right here.”

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي لَآ أَمۡلِكُ إِلَّا نَفۡسِي وَأَخِيۖ فَٱفۡرُقۡ بَيۡنَنَا وَبَيۡنَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلۡفَٰسِقِينَ 25

25        Musa (peace be upon him) said: “O my Creator! “I have no control except over myself and my brother. Hence, cause separation between us and the disobedient people.”

قَالَ فَإِنَّهَا مُحَرَّمَةٌ عَلَيۡهِمۡۛ أَرۡبَعِينَ سَنَةٗۛ يَتِيهُونَ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ فَلَا تَأۡسَ عَلَى ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلۡفَٰسِقِينَ 26

26        Allah said: “So, indeed, this (holy land) is forbidden to them for forty years. They will keep wander-ing here and there in this land (dur-ing this time).” [Musa (peace be upon him) expected only a small punishment for his people. Musa (peace be upon him) became some-what sad] (Allah added:) “Don’t be sad about disobedient people.” (They deserve this punishment).

۞وَٱتۡلُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ نَبَأَ ٱبۡنَيۡ ءَادَمَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ إِذۡ قَرَّبَا قُرۡبَانٗا فَتُقُبِّلَ مِنۡ أَحَدِهِمَا وَلَمۡ يُتَقَبَّلۡ مِنَ ٱلۡأٓخَرِ قَالَ لَأَقۡتُلَنَّكَۖ قَالَ إِنَّمَا يَتَقَبَّلُ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ 27

27        And [O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)!] recite to them the story of the two sons of Adam (peace be upon him) (Habil and Qabil), when each offered a sacrifice (to Allah). The sacrifice of one was accepted but not from the other. One of them said to the other: “I will surely kill you.” The other answered: “Verily, Allah accepts (sacrifice) only from those who are pious.

لَئِنۢ بَسَطتَ إِلَيَّ يَدَكَ لِتَقۡتُلَنِي مَآ أَنَا۠ بِبَاسِطٖ يَدِيَ إِلَيۡكَ لِأَقۡتُلَكَۖ إِنِّيٓ أَخَافُ ٱللَّهَ رَبَّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ 28

28        “Even if you try to kill me with your hand, I shall not raise my hand to kill you, since I fear the Creator of mankind, jinn and all that exists.

إِنِّيٓ أُرِيدُ أَن تَبُوٓأَ بِإِثۡمِي وَإِثۡمِكَ فَتَكُونَ مِنۡ أَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلنَّارِۚ وَذَٰلِكَ جَزَٰٓؤُاْ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ 29

29        “Verily, I intend to let you have my sin and your sin on your shoulders and then you will be one of the dwellers of Fire and that is the reward for the wrong-doers.”

فَطَوَّعَتۡ لَهُۥ نَفۡسُهُۥ قَتۡلَ أَخِيهِ فَقَتَلَهُۥ فَأَصۡبَحَ مِنَ ٱلۡخَٰسِرِينَ 30

30        So his inner self made fair-seeming to him to kill his brother (whose sacrifice was accepted). Then he killed him and became one of the losers.

فَبَعَثَ ٱللَّهُ غُرَابٗا يَبۡحَثُ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ لِيُرِيَهُۥ كَيۡفَ يُوَٰرِي سَوۡءَةَ أَخِيهِۚ قَالَ يَٰوَيۡلَتَىٰٓ أَعَجَزۡتُ أَنۡ أَكُونَ مِثۡلَ هَٰذَا ٱلۡغُرَابِ فَأُوَٰرِيَ سَوۡءَةَ أَخِيۖ فَأَصۡبَحَ مِنَ ٱلنَّٰدِمِينَ 31

31        Then Allah sent a crow which scratched the ground to show him how to hide the dead body of his brother. (The murderer) said: “Woe to me! Am I too weak to act like this crow and be able to hide dead body of my brother?” Then he became one of those who are full of regrets.
