لَّن تُغۡنِيَ عَنۡهُمۡ أَمۡوَٰلُهُمۡ وَلَآ أَوۡلَٰدُهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ شَيۡ‍ًٔاۚ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلنَّارِۖ هُمۡ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَ 17

17        (When this torment is inflicted on them) their wealth and children will not benefit them a bit against Allah. They will be the residents of the Fire, to reside there forever.

يَوۡمَ يَبۡعَثُهُمُ ٱللَّهُ جَمِيعٗا فَيَحۡلِفُونَ لَهُۥ كَمَا يَحۡلِفُونَ لَكُمۡ وَيَحۡسَبُونَ أَنَّهُمۡ عَلَىٰ شَيۡءٍۚ أَلَآ إِنَّهُمۡ هُمُ ٱلۡكَٰذِبُونَ 18

18        On the Day when Allah will resurrect them all, then the hypocrites will swear to Allah as they used to swear to you (Muslims) hoping that they have something (to protect them). Bear in mind, they are liars!

ٱسۡتَحۡوَذَ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنُ فَأَنسَىٰهُمۡ ذِكۡرَ ٱللَّهِۚ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ حِزۡبُ ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنِۚ أَلَآ إِنَّ حِزۡبَ ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنِ هُمُ ٱلۡخَٰسِرُونَ 19

19        Satan has over-powered them. So he has made them forget the remembrance of Allah (i.e. Satan has made them disobey the Commands of Allah). They are the party of Satan. Indeed, it is the party of Satan that will be the losers!

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُحَآدُّونَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥٓ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ فِي ٱلۡأَذَلِّينَ 20

20        Those who oppose Allah and His Messenger [Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)], they will, indeed, be among the most disgraced (people). (Also see Surah Ghafir:51 and 52)

كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ لَأَغۡلِبَنَّ أَنَا۠ وَرُسُلِيٓۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَوِيٌّ عَزِيزٞ 21

21        Allah has decreed: “I and My messengers shall definitely be victorious”. Indeed, Allah is All-Powerful, All-Mighty.

لَّا تَجِدُ قَوۡمٗا يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأٓخِرِ يُوَآدُّونَ مَنۡ حَآدَّ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ وَلَوۡ كَانُوٓاْ ءَابَآءَهُمۡ أَوۡ أَبۡنَآءَهُمۡ أَوۡ إِخۡوَٰنَهُمۡ أَوۡ عَشِيرَتَهُمۡۚ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ كَتَبَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمُ ٱلۡإِيمَٰنَ وَأَيَّدَهُم بِرُوحٖ مِّنۡهُۖ وَيُدۡخِلُهُمۡ جَنَّٰتٖ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَاۚ رَضِيَ ٱللَّهُ عَنۡهُمۡ وَرَضُواْ عَنۡهُۚ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ حِزۡبُ ٱللَّهِۚ أَلَآ إِنَّ حِزۡبَ ٱللَّهِ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ 22

22        [O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)!] You will not find any people who believe in Allah and the Last Day, making friendship with those who oppose Allah and His Messenger [Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)], even though they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their relatives. Allah has implanted firm Faith in their hearts, and strengthened them with light of faith (or true guidance) from Himself. And He will admit them to Gardens beneath which rivers flow (Paradise)  to reside there forever. Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Allah. They are the Party of Allah. Bear in mind, it is the Party of Allah that will be successful.

سَبَّحَ لِلَّهِ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلۡحَكِيمُ 1

1        Whatsoever is in the heavens and in the earth glorifies Allah. He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.

هُوَ ٱلَّذِيٓ أَخۡرَجَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِنۡ أَهۡلِ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ مِن دِيَٰرِهِمۡ لِأَوَّلِ ٱلۡحَشۡرِۚ مَا ظَنَنتُمۡ أَن يَخۡرُجُواْۖ وَظَنُّوٓاْ أَنَّهُم مَّانِعَتُهُمۡ حُصُونُهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ فَأَتَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مِنۡ حَيۡثُ لَمۡ يَحۡتَسِبُواْۖ وَقَذَفَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمُ ٱلرُّعۡبَۚ يُخۡرِبُونَ بُيُوتَهُم بِأَيۡدِيهِمۡ وَأَيۡدِي ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ فَٱعۡتَبِرُواْ يَٰٓأُوْلِي ٱلۡأَبۡصَٰرِ 2

2        He (Allah) expelled the dis-believers from the People of the Scripture (i.e. Jewish tribe of Banu-Nadheer ) from their homes at the first gathering [i.e. there is a prediction it will happen again, as it did at the time of Umar (ؓ)]. (O believers!) you did not think that they will ever abandon (or get out from) their homes (due to their wealth and equipment). And they were confident that their fortresses would defend them against Allah. But Allah’s (torment) came to them from where they did not expect it. And He (Allah) created fear in their hearts so that they demolished their homes with their own hands and with the hands of the believers. Hence, O sensible people, learn a lesson from this.

وَلَوۡلَآ أَن كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلۡجَلَآءَ لَعَذَّبَهُمۡ فِي ٱلدُّنۡيَاۖ وَلَهُمۡ فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ عَذَابُ ٱلنَّارِ 3

3        And if Allah had not decreed exile (i.e. migration) for them, He would certainly have punished them in this world (as their sister tribe Banu Quraiza  was punished. If they are spared from the worldly torment) there will be torment of Fire for them in the Hereafter.

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ شَآقُّواْ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥۖ وَمَن يُشَآقِّ ٱللَّهَ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِيدُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ 4

4        That is because they opposed Allah and His messenger [Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)]. And whosoever opposes Allah, then Allah is severe in punishment.

مَا قَطَعۡتُم مِّن لِّينَةٍ أَوۡ تَرَكۡتُمُوهَا قَآئِمَةً عَلَىٰٓ أُصُولِهَا فَبِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِيُخۡزِيَ ٱلۡفَٰسِقِينَ 5

5        (O believers!) The palm-trees (of tribe Banu Nadheer) which you cut down (or burnt) and those which you left standing on their stems, all this was with the Permission (and Pleasure) of Allah and it was to disgrace the rebellious people.

وَمَآ أَفَآءَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِۦ مِنۡهُمۡ فَمَآ أَوۡجَفۡتُمۡ عَلَيۡهِ مِنۡ خَيۡلٖ وَلَا رِكَابٖ وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُسَلِّطُ رُسُلَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَن يَشَآءُۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ قَدِيرٞ 6

6        And Fai (he booty  gathered without actual battle) which Allah gave to His Messenger [Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)] from them, and you did not have to make any expedition by running around with your horses or camels, but Allah makes His messenger dominate over whom-soever He wills. And Allah is Able to do all things.

مَّآ أَفَآءَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِۦ مِنۡ أَهۡلِ ٱلۡقُرَىٰ فَلِلَّهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ وَلِذِي ٱلۡقُرۡبَىٰ وَٱلۡيَتَٰمَىٰ وَٱلۡمَسَٰكِينِ وَٱبۡنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ كَيۡ لَا يَكُونَ دُولَةَۢ بَيۡنَ ٱلۡأَغۡنِيَآءِ مِنكُمۡۚ وَمَآ ءَاتَىٰكُمُ ٱلرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَىٰكُمۡ عَنۡهُ فَٱنتَهُواْۚ وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِيدُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ 7

7        (Similarly) the booty (Fai) which Allah gives to His Mes-senger from other communities, it is for Allah, His Messenger [Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)], the relatives of the Mes-senger [Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)], orphans, the needy and travellers (and it is not to be distributed among the participants of the expedition), in order that it may not keep circulating among the rich among you (as it was at the time of ignorance). Hence, whatsoever the Messenger [Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)] gives you, take it, and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it). And fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is severe in punishment.

لِلۡفُقَرَآءِ ٱلۡمُهَٰجِرِينَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُخۡرِجُواْ مِن دِيَٰرِهِمۡ وَأَمۡوَٰلِهِمۡ يَبۡتَغُونَ فَضۡلٗا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرِضۡوَٰنٗا وَيَنصُرُونَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥٓۚ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلصَّٰدِقُونَ 8

8        (Fai is for) those poor emi-grants, who were expelled from their homes and their properties, (simply because they were) seeking the Bounty of Allah and His Plea-sure and they were helping in the Cause of Allah and His Messenger [Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)]. Such are, indeed, the truthful (to what they say).

وَٱلَّذِينَ تَبَوَّءُو ٱلدَّارَ وَٱلۡإِيمَٰنَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ يُحِبُّونَ مَنۡ هَاجَرَ إِلَيۡهِمۡ وَلَا يَجِدُونَ فِي صُدُورِهِمۡ حَاجَةٗ مِّمَّآ أُوتُواْ وَيُؤۡثِرُونَ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمۡ وَلَوۡ كَانَ بِهِمۡ خَصَاصَةٞۚ وَمَن يُوقَ شُحَّ نَفۡسِهِۦ فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ 9

9        (And there is more right in this booty i.e. Fai, for) those (believers who are called Ansar) who were residents (of Madinah) and had embraced Islam before the migration of emigrants to them. (Their virtues are) they don’t feel any need (or malice) in their hearts (towards the emigrants) for what has been given to them (from booty of Banu Nadheer). They (the Ansar) give them (the emigrants) preference over themselves even though they were in dire need of that (food etc). And whosoever is saved from miserliness of his innerself, so they will be the successful persons. (Here virtues of Ansar are described).

وَٱلَّذِينَ جَآءُو مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا ٱغۡفِرۡ لَنَا وَلِإِخۡوَٰنِنَا ٱلَّذِينَ سَبَقُونَا بِٱلۡإِيمَٰنِ وَلَا تَجۡعَلۡ فِي قُلُوبِنَا غِلّٗا لِّلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ رَبَّنَآ إِنَّكَ رَءُوفٞ رَّحِيمٌ 10

10        And (Fai is for) those who came after them, they make this supplication: “Our Creator! Forgive us and our brothers who have preceded us in Faith and do not put any jealousy in our hearts for those who have believed. Our Creator! You are indeed, full of kindness, Most Merciful.” (The condition to receive Fai is not to say anything bad about emigrants and Ansar and to make the above Dua).

۞أَلَمۡ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ نَافَقُواْ يَقُولُونَ لِإِخۡوَٰنِهِمُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِنۡ أَهۡلِ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ لَئِنۡ أُخۡرِجۡتُمۡ لَنَخۡرُجَنَّ مَعَكُمۡ وَلَا نُطِيعُ فِيكُمۡ أَحَدًا أَبَدٗا وَإِن قُوتِلۡتُمۡ لَنَنصُرَنَّكُمۡ وَٱللَّهُ يَشۡهَدُ إِنَّهُمۡ لَكَٰذِبُونَ 11

11        [O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)!] Have you not observed the hypocrites who say to their friends among the people of the Scripture who are disbelievers: “If you are expelled (from your homeland), we will definitely go out with you too, and we will not obey anybody regarding you, and if they (Muslims) fight against you, we shall definitely help you.” And Allah is Witness that they are, indeed, liars.

لَئِنۡ أُخۡرِجُواْ لَا يَخۡرُجُونَ مَعَهُمۡ وَلَئِن قُوتِلُواْ لَا يَنصُرُونَهُمۡ وَلَئِن نَّصَرُوهُمۡ لَيُوَلُّنَّ ٱلۡأَدۡبَٰرَ ثُمَّ لَا يُنصَرُونَ 12

12        If the Jews are expelled (from their homeland), they (the hypocrites) will never go out with them and if the Jews are attacked, they will never help them. And (even) if they do help them, the hypocrites will flee on their backs and (after their fleeing), the Jews will have no helper.

لَأَنتُمۡ أَشَدُّ رَهۡبَةٗ فِي صُدُورِهِم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ قَوۡمٞ لَّا يَفۡقَهُونَ 13

13        The hypocrites (and/or Jews) are more scared of the believers deep in their hearts than that of the fear of Allah (that is why they apparently pretend to be with the believers). It is because they are people without any sense. 

لَا يُقَٰتِلُونَكُمۡ جَمِيعًا إِلَّا فِي قُرٗى مُّحَصَّنَةٍ أَوۡ مِن وَرَآءِ جُدُرِۢۚ بَأۡسُهُم بَيۡنَهُمۡ شَدِيدٞۚ تَحۡسَبُهُمۡ جَمِيعٗا وَقُلُوبُهُمۡ شَتَّىٰۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ قَوۡمٞ لَّا يَعۡقِلُونَ 14

14        (Irrespective of the alliance of hypocrites and Jews) they don’t even dare to fight against you together except in fortified towns or from behind walls. Their enmity among themselves is severe. Although they appear to you united, but their hearts are (deeply) disunited. That is because they are people who don’t have any sense.
