أَزِفَتِ ٱلۡأٓزِفَةُ 57

57        [Believe in Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him), since] the Day of Resurrection has drawn near.

لَيۡسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ 58

58        None can show its (the Day of Resurrection’s) time besides Allah (the time is fixed; none can advance it nor delay it).

أَفَمِنۡ هَٰذَا ٱلۡحَدِيثِ تَعۡجَبُونَ 59

59        Do you then wonder about this (Quranic) speech?

وَتَضۡحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبۡكُونَ 60

60        And you laugh (to mock it) and don’t weep (out of the fear of torment).

وَأَنتُمۡ سَٰمِدُونَ 61

61        And you are absorbed in the enjoyment (of this worldly life).

فَٱسۡجُدُواْۤ لِلَّهِۤ وَٱعۡبُدُواْ۩ 62

62        [Hence, quit arro-gance and heed-less---ness and follow the teach-ings of Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)] So fall down in prostration (in obedience) to Allah and worship Him (Alone).

ٱقۡتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلۡقَمَرُ 1

1        The Day of Resurrection has drawn near, (and to confirm this fact) the moon did split. [Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) showed this miracle to the people of Makkah to prove his Prophethood].

وَإِن يَرَوۡاْ ءَايَةٗ يُعۡرِضُواْ وَيَقُولُواْ سِحۡرٞ مُّسۡتَمِرّٞ 2

2        And if they see a miracle, they turn away, and say: “This is magic which is continuously coming from earlier times.”

وَكَذَّبُواْ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓاْ أَهۡوَآءَهُمۡۚ وَكُلُّ أَمۡرٖ مُّسۡتَقِرّٞ 3

3        They denied (the truth) and followed their own (evil) desires. And (the result of) every matter will be shown at its fixed time (if not in this world, then definitely in the Hereafter).

وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزۡدَجَرٌ 4

4        And, indeed, they have received the news (of previous communities) containing plenty of warnings (with which they could have followed a sensible Path).

حِكۡمَةُۢ بَٰلِغَةٞۖ فَمَا تُغۡنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ 5

5        (The Quran) is perfect wisdom but warnings (or threats) did not benefit them.

فَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡۘ يَوۡمَ يَدۡعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَيۡءٖ نُّكُرٍ 6

6        [O Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)!] So just ignore them. (When the Day of Resurrection arrives, they will then realize). The Day when the caller (the angel) will call them to a terrible thing,

خُشَّعًا أَبۡصَٰرُهُمۡ يَخۡرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡأَجۡدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمۡ جَرَادٞ مُّنتَشِرٞ 7

7        They will suddenly come out of their graves with humbled eyes, (in large numbers) as if they were locusts spread all around.

مُّهۡطِعِينَ إِلَى ٱلدَّاعِۖ يَقُولُ ٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ هَٰذَا يَوۡمٌ عَسِرٞ 8

8        Running towards the caller (without looking back). The dis-believers will say (viewing the horrors of that Day): “This is a hard Day.”

۞كَذَّبَتۡ قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمُ نُوحٖ فَكَذَّبُواْ عَبۡدَنَا وَقَالُواْ مَجۡنُونٞ وَٱزۡدُجِرَ 9

9        The people of Nuh (peace be upon him ) denied (their messenger) before them. They not only denied Our slave but also said to him: “A madman!” and rebuked him too. (Also see Surah Ash-Shuara:116)

فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّي مَغۡلُوبٞ فَٱنتَصِرۡ 10

10        Then he [Nuh (peace be upon him )] prayed to his Creator saying: “I have been overpowered, so help me!”

فَفَتَحۡنَآ أَبۡوَٰبَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ بِمَآءٖ مُّنۡهَمِرٖ 11

11        Hence, We opened the gates of the heavens with heavy rain.

وَفَجَّرۡنَا ٱلۡأَرۡضَ عُيُونٗا فَٱلۡتَقَى ٱلۡمَآءُ عَلَىٰٓ أَمۡرٖ قَدۡ قُدِرَ 12

12        And We brought out water from the earth in the form of springs. So the two waters joined for a matter predestined.

وَحَمَلۡنَٰهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلۡوَٰحٖ وَدُسُرٖ 13

13        And We carried Nuh (peace be upon him ) and his followers (to save them from the storm) in a ship made of planks and nails.

تَجۡرِي بِأَعۡيُنِنَا جَزَآءٗ لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ 14

14        Which was sailing under Our Protection to reward the person who had been ungratefully rejected.
